Recycling Brick – From Demolition to Design
With the Deppe Recycling Brick, existing brick material is transformed into a new generation of clinker bricks – resource-efficient, full of character, and unique in their aesthetics.
At a Glance
- up to 70% recycled material
- regional raw materials
- individual color and surface appearance
- same technical quality as traditional clinker bricks
How is the Recycling Brick made?
Bricks from demolition projects are:
- freed from contaminants such as metal or insulation residues
- crushed and processed
- combined with regional clay and homogenized
Depending on the project, we use either cleaned recyclates or demolition bricks containing mortar residues.
One outstanding Recycling Brick project is the senior living complex “Das Ludwig” in Nordhorn. Here, the original brick façade was removed to improve thermal insulation. The material was processed, re-fired, and now returns as Recycling Brick to the same location—giving it a second life.

Aesthetics with Character
Each Recycling Brick is unique. Its color is derived directly from the recycled material—within a natural spectrum of reds, browns, and vibrant mixed tones. The result: façades with depth, character, and a sense of history.
Suitable for All Production Methods
The Recycling Brick can be manufactured project-specifically as:
-
waterstruck brick
-
extruded brick
-
hand-moulded / stock brick
Since demolition material varies from project to project, we:
-
develop a tested raw material mix and
-
carry out trial firings
This results in a building material with reduced use of primary raw resources while simultaneously opening up new design possibilities.
Sustainability with Substance
-
reduced use of primary raw materials
-
reuse of demolition material instead of disposal
-
use of regional materials → short transport distances
And what about energy?
Quality requires high temperatures, meaning there is no significant advantage during the firing process compared to conventional raw materials. However, due to the high proportion of already fired components, the drying process is shortened—resulting in additional efficiency gains.
Taking It Further: Recycling Meets Lean Brick
The concept can also be combined with our Lean Brick!
We produce Recycling Lean Bricks for you that:
-
save material thanks to their reduced depth
-
reuse raw material resources
-
simultaneously reduce material usage, weight, and CO₂ emissions
